Our favourite rooms

Any of the Garden View suites will definitely do the job. All of them open on to luscious gardens, giving the kids an opportunity to run around while you laze back on the king-size bed. They also all include bath tubs, perfect for little (and less little) guests.

Quirky monkey statuettes spit arcs of water into the free-form infinity pool on the beach. Swim up to the semi-submerged pool bar for refreshments any time of day. Of course, there's also the beach. Waters are usually calm and placid, but keep an eye out for the red flags that indicate stormy waters.

You don't have to book babysitters if you want some pampering  – children are welcome in the spa, which is open from 10am to 10pm. While mum or dad indulge in something spoiling (the 200-minute Journey of Siam or 165-minute Dawn Renewal ritual, perhaps?), little Smiths can be cosseted with a chocolate body scrub, a tropical body cocoon treatment or a relaxing massage (among other treats). The spa boasts more than 3,000 square metres of quiet, natural surroundings and private pools for outdoor soaking and luxuriant relaxation.

Arrive early or have a late flight? Take advantage of the hotel's changing facilities and showers.

Book ahead

The hotel reckons it's sensible to book spa treatments, Dining by Design and special excursions before arrival; spaces at the kids club and restaurant reservations can be sorted when you're there.

Head to High Tide for spicy Thai dinners in a laidback modern setting. There's also Full Moon restaurant, for succulent chargrilled meat and fish.

Family fare

The kids will be spoiled for choice, with both restaurants catering for their younger guests at any time of the day. Menu highlights include mini hot dogs with chips, jasmine rice with mixed vegetables and sliced chicken breast, boneless fish fingers with tartare sauce and pasta with a range of sauces. Crayons and paper are provided, to keep little fingers busy. Highchairs are available, but there are no booster seats. Both restaurants are more than happy to heat up baby food or milk.

Hotel Bar

Hanging lamps and ochre walls lend Eclipse Bar an air of Moroccan-inspired mystery; the tall rattan stools and soothing soundtrack provide a tropical-style chill-out vibe. Take a night off and sip a signature Samui Sling on the garden verandah while the sun sets. Little Smiths are more than welcome in the bar, and can choose from a menu of zingy mocktails and fresh juices.

Last orders

Both restaurants stop serving at 11pm, but drinks are available until 12.30am.

Things to do

Anantara Bophut caters for children of all ages. The Garden Suites are surely designed for reading the paper or your holiday mags while the little ones romp in the grass, and watersports and fitness classes – including yoga, pilates and Thai boxing – are on offer to get them moving. The pool will keep them occupied for hours while you sip on a cocktail from the pool bar; then again, how can you resist the beach?

Hotel activities

Make the most of your beachside location. Go on a jetski ride (THB 2,300 for 30 minutes) or splash out on the Jetski Safari, which will whoosh you around seven small islands (THB 9,000 for three hours). Children can join in, as long as they're accompanied by an adult on a jetski; life jackets are provided. Over-12s can also try their hand at parasailing, windsurfing and other water sports; smaller ones will enjoy going snorkelling or sightseeing. If you'd rather stay on dry land, the hotel offers tennis, pilates, yoga, Thai boxing classes and Thai cooking classes. The kids can get their hands dirty at fruit-carving classes while parents polish their barmen skills with a cocktail-mixing class. The 30m infinity pool will also keep the whole family occupied for hours (the pool bar will ensure everyone stays hydrated). For something a little special, Anantura Bophet offers a two-hour sunset cruise around the glistening waters of Koh Samui. The 35-ft sailing vessel accommodates eight guests, meaning the whole family can enjoy one of the best sunsets in the world (for an extra cost).

Challenge the little ones with a race around a go-kart track, within walking distance of Anatara, or relax with a massage for all ages at one of the village’s mini-spas. Venture a little further out for football golf, an activity that originated on the island.
