At the hotel

In your room

Flatscreen TV, DVD player (integrated with TV), Blu-ray player, CD player, radio, iPod dock, WiFi, minibar. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchenette with an oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, sink, washing machine, kettle, coffee machine and grill.

Our favourite rooms

You’ll be well catered for in any of these spacious all-white suites, which span a hall, fully equipped kitchen, dining room, living room with original stained glass, and two ensuite bedrooms supplied with the hotel’s signature bath products. Gadget-lovers will enjoy the hi-tech Lutron lighting system; design buffs will rate the designer furniture, courtesy of Arne Jacobsen, Philippe Starck, Charles and Ray Eames and Mies van der Rohe. If forced to choose, we love the Principal Tibidabo suite for its spacious layout and the views of Tibidabo; the Principal Passeig de Gràcia suite for its private terrace with views of Passeig de Gràcia. Parents with several little ones in tow should request an apartment with twin beds in one room.

Poolside

No pool, but bring your swimwear for the wellness area.

Spa

There’s a rooftop mini-spa with a sauna, water beds, massage room and lounge area. Survey the city during your massage (featuring Aveda products) or manicure.

Pet-friendly

Dining

Although the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, your multilingual personal assistant will happily arrange pretty much any kind of catering or dining experience, whether you want a private chef, a fully stocked fridge, a delivery of organic treats or a generous, staff-prepared breakfast each morning in your apartment. Of course, each apartment has a fully kitted-out kitchenette, so you can pick up provisions in town (the nearest supermarket is a five-minute walk away) and rustle up something using your oven, hob, microwave or grill.

Family fare

High chairs and children’s cutlery can be provided.

Hotel Bar

No bar, but suites have a hand-picked selection of Spanish wines, cava and champagne. Spirits are available on request.

Last orders

Store your assistant’s mobile number in your phone, and you can order food and drink around the clock.

Smith Insider

Smith & Family  Parent Panel reviews

Every property featured in the Smith & Family collection – including El Palauet – has been selected and approved by parents.

Whether you’re a design buff, Barcelona fan, parent with sprogs in tow, or all of the above, you’ll love El Palauet’s apartments, housed in an elegant modernist building in the lively Eixample district. On the practical side, there’s the sleek kitchenettes fitted out with everything you could need for relaxed family meals: hobs, microwaves, ovens, grills (and Nespresso machines, if baby kept you from sleep). There’s also the exemplary concierge service: each apartment is accessorised with its own fabulous assistant, who can provide tech-hungry teens with PlayStations and iPads, or sort DVDs for the projector screens. Should you want to leave that kitchenette behind for a few hours, the concierge can also arrange babysitting. (Alternatively, request the services of a private chef and let them do the cooking while you do the Barcelona-looking.)

On the ornamental side, these apartments have style by the barrio load: all the opulent original features are present and correct (frescoes, architraves, stained-glass windows and high ceilings). Then there’s the modern minimalist interiors, decorated in bright white with shots of grey; kitted out with fabulous furniture courtesy of top talent – steel wire Platner chairs, Saarinen dining tables, Jacobsen egg armchairs and Mies van der Rohe leather seats – and all the mod cons: big screens, iPod docks, sound systems and satellite TVs. Unsurprisingly, given the apartments’ city-central location on the bustling Passeig de Gràcia, rooms have ever-changing views of Barcelona street life and Tibidabo mountain; pick the day’s destination over breakfast: bathing at the beach; animal-spotting at the zoo or fish-spying aquarium; or broadening horizons at the museums, galleries and cathedrals.

We loved

The architecture is beautiful and apartment design amazing. Staff very attentive and quite lovely. We were a family with teenagers.  They loved the apartment, but not the open plan bedroom/bathroom. Farga restaurant around the corner (Diagonal) was good. Restaurant Eden (just off Diagonal) was excellent value and excellent food.

Don’t expect

A free tea/coffee as we were charged for these, despite being encouraged to help ourselves. Had expected to pay for multitude of items stocked in fridge, but not tea/coffee. No iphone sockets or adapters, although usb points on the 4 TV's.
