Double rooms from £211.24 (VND5,775,000), including tax at 15 per cent.

More details

Rates usually include breakfast (choose from buffet options at Sandals restaurant, à la carte in Mojito’s bar, or cosied up in bed). Children Up to one cot (free) and one extra bed (US$46 a night, including breakfast) can be added to all rooms.

If you’re staying at the hotel on 24 December, 25 December, 31 December, 1 January or 18 February (Lunar new year), you’re required to have lunch or dinner at the hotel on those days.

At the hotel

Private beach, six-hectare gardens, spa, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, small gym.

In your room

Flatscreen TV, iPod dock, free WiFi (or wired internet), minibar, bathrobes, slippers and Thann bath products. Minibars are stocked with flavoured milk and snacks to boost little ones’ energy levels, including sunflower seeds, cashew nuts, rice crackers and biscuits. Other in-room treats include a fruit basket, Vietnamese coffee and tea.

Our favourite rooms

Garden Condos suit parents with babies, as they don’t have any stairs (meaning no huffing and puffing over a pushchair) and they’re an easy stroll from the restaurant and other facilities. If you’re the proud owners of toddlers, book one of the Garden Villas, which have a huge lawn in front of each villa (perfect for little legs to totter around on) and are close to the beach and main pool (Garden Villa 406 has the best ocean views). These villas don’t have their own pool, so you won’t have to be watching little ones like hawks 24–7. If you have older children, go for one of the two-bedroom options for more privacy: a Family Condo, the Mia Suite (which also has a bigger pool and a microwave) or – for the ultimate in teen independence – the set of interconnecting Garden Villas, which have a shared outdoor dining area. The palatial 5-Bedroom Beachfront Villas are an ideal choice if the extended family are staying too.

Four pots that appear to float on the water mark out the shallow end of the main pool, for children to splish and splash in. Pool toys and games can be provided. Kids will love playing on the beach all day long: it’s safe, peaceful and protected, and the sea is generally calm.

Xanh Spa, located set in its own building near the top of the resort and close to reception, is a peaceful space where guests can enjoy a steam and sauna before their treatment. Opt for a Dermalogica facial, try the mud body wrap or unwind warmly with the hot-stone therapy massage, featuring pebbles plucked from the local river. Book a babysitter, or treat your little ones to their own pampering session at the same time: there’s a special spa range menu for kids aged 5–13, including tailored facials, massages and foot massages.

Food and drink

Mia Resort hotel - Nha Trang - Vietnam

Recognising that sunbathing and sea-frolicking are hungry work, the hotel has an excellent beachside restaurant, Sandals, where guests can enjoy succulent seafood and refreshing fruity drinks/ice-cold alcohol. Different nights of the week are dedicated to different dishes: Monday honours pasta; on Wednesday there’s a Vietnamese buffet (with Vietnamese liquor for the brave/foolish); Friday is pizza night and on Saturdays, there’s a barbecue.

Family fare

Little Smiths will enjoy Sandals’ young-at-heart menu, which includes ‘fisherman’s’ fish and chips, ice-cream, juices and milkshakes. Kids can also be adventurous and pick from a tailored Asian selection, which includes Vietnamese rice porridge, stir-fried noodles and fried rice (washed down with a mango and mint lassi, perhaps). Order a Vietnamese hotpot for a great family experience; everyone can add their own favourite ingredients to the bubbling pot of stock, cooked in front of you, and little ones will get a true taste of Vietnam. Parents might find themselves ‘sampling’ Smith Junior’s ice-cream – flavours on offer include white-chocolate and raspberry, mocha almond fudge and cookies and cream. Highchairs are provided.

Hotel Bar

Fan of mojitos? You’ll be a fan of Mojito's, which serves at least eight varieties, last time we counted (if we got our figures wrong, it’s the rum’s fault). Sip your way through ginger, whatijo (watermelon), lemongrass and lychee varieties, flavoured with fresh green sugarcane and rum from the local islands. Wine-lovers are also kept well lubricated, thanks to the Beach House South African wine collection. The bar boasts all the charms you’d expect from a beachside watering hole: airy interiors, chill-out music flowing in the background and dazzling views. It’s located at the top of the resort, with dramatic sea views, and is lantern-lit at light, making for a romantic experience. Children are welcome at Mojito’s (and can order milkshakes and ice-cream), but the bar has a grown-up romance that makes it more suited to adults; book a babysitter and enjoy a fun, cocktail-fuelled evening.

Last orders

The set-up is insanely relaxed: breakfast is served from 7am until 10am; anything else can be eaten from 7am until 1am. Mojito’s opening hours mirror the restaurant’s.

Smith Insider

  • Top table

Everyone loves the outdoor terrace, where you can hear the waves while you eat, but if you nab one of the inside banquettes, you’ll have plenty of space to spread out.

  • Room service

Just reading the room service menu could take you from 7am until 1am (which is when treats can be brought to your room): the generous selection includes salads, burgers, wraps and pizzas, as well as Vietnamese options such as pho and spring rolls. There are also 10 salads to choose from, including Thai beef and crab Caesar, if you’re after something a little lighter.

Obliging staff are happy to heat milk and baby food around the clock. You can also request packed lunches or ask the chef to adapt menu items. Feeling lazy? Order breakfast in bed (there's no extra cost). Ask staff to arrange a picnic for you: your hamper will be groaning with sandwiches, cupcakes, a cheeseboard and a carafe of fruit juice. Take your haul to the garden, the beach or your bedroom. Just be sure to book it two hours in advance.

Kids Club

None, but there’s a small room next to Sandals restaurant stocked with toys, board games, Wii, a DVD player and kids’ movies. You wouldn’t want to leave your little ones here all day, but it’s a great place to drop them off for a few hours while you hit the spa or have a romantic meal à deux. At 2pm on Saturdays, the hotel has Bake and Make sessions, where children can make cupcakes with the amiable chefs. On Sunday mornings, there are drop-in painting and colouring-in sessions for budding artists.

Book three hours ahead for babysitting, which costs VND150,000 an hour. Overnight babysitting can also be arranged for VND1,000,000 (the babysitter will sleep in the room with your little one).

Things to do

Thanks to the relaxed vibe, little Smiths can run around happily, roaming in the green gardens, splashing in the shallow end of the pool, playing games in the little kids room or taking part in junior cookery classes. Adults can indulge in very reasonably priced treatments in the spa and laze by the pool with a glass of wine, or dip into nearby Nha Trang. Of course, you'll be spending a sizable chunk of your time at the beach and making the most of the watersports on offer.

Hotel activities

Here, you can quite happily spend the day flopping around on the beach doing diddly squait, or getting active with aquatic adventures: snorkelling at either end of the beach (there's complimentary kit to borrow), where coral grows near the rocks and gem-coloured fish flit away happily; paddle-boarding or kayaking, or simply borrowing a lilo and floating on the waves, working on your tan. Staff can arrange scuba diving sessions with experts. Adults can take part in cookery classes run by the hotel. The advanced class is fantastic: guests start early with a trip to the local market for an iced coffee with the locals and the chance to pick out ingredients from the street vendors; you'll also get an apron and Mia cookbook. Sports fiends can also ask staff to point them in the direction of the nearest tennis courts, gym and golf course. Children will love playing hide and seek in the six-hectare gardens, dotted with soaring palm trees and fragrant frangipani trees. There’s also a huge lawn in front of the Garden Villas

And there's more…

Every Saturday afternoon, the hotel holds free yoga on the beach, with a yogi from Nha Trang. (Private payable classes can also be booked.) The hotel has a free shuttle service to nearby Nha Trang which makes three return journeys daily. Boat trips can be organised from Nha Trang by the hotel.

Local Guide

Mia Resort hotel - Nha Trang - Vietnam

Mia Resort’s Cam Lam Bay setting is within easy reach of buzzy Nha Trang and its airport, with some of Vietnam’s most beautiful beaches on your doorstep. Thanks to the free shuttle service, you can easily hop into town and back again once you’ve had your fill of the local markets, low-key restaurants, bars and shops.

If the kids need a day out, head to the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography (+84 (0)583 590 037) – where Finding Nemo fans can meet some native clownfish, and scorpions, star fish, leopard sharks, sting rays and green turtles.

Get dirty in the cleanest possible way at Thap Ba Hot Spring Centre (; +84 58 383 4939), where you can sit immersed in hot cleansing mud and then slough it all off. Choose between single or double bath tubs, family-sized pools or communal springs. There are also mineral swimming springs (hot and cold) and thermal waterfalls. You'll find the springs at 25 Ngoc Son.

Getting There

Mia Nha Trang is set on a private bay under the road that loops around the coast and leads from the airport to Nha Trang. Don’t worry about revving motors; you’re more likely to be aware of the crashing waves.

The closest airport is Cam Ranh International, 15 km away ( Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific offer regular scheduled flights to and from Nha Trang (Cam Ranh) airport. Hotel transfers cost VND138,000 a person, each way.

Nha Trang station, 25km away (a half-hour drive), is a stop on the main railway-line connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City ( The Reunification Express ( connects the north and south of the country with Nha Trang en route. Nightly sleeper berths are available to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and Hanoi – first class with air-con is really the only way to go.

Nha Trang city is a 20-minute drive away. Witnessing the traffic on the coastal highway, you’ll be relieved that self-drive is unavailable for visitors. Organising a car with a driver through the hotel is a more relaxing option.

Smith & Family  Parent Panel reviews

Every property featured in the Smith & Family collection – including Mia Resort – has been selected and approved by parents.

If you’re looking for the kind of hotel where you can let your little ones roam around in green gardens, gambol on the beach and kick up their heels in the calm shallows, make new friends in a seafood-championing restaurant and eat cookies and cream ice-cream, we’ve found the place. If you’re looking for the kind of hotel that lets your little ones do all that while you get to have some alone time with your other half (preferably in a glittering spa and mojito-serving, lantern-lit bar), again, look no further – we did the hunting for you, and we’ve fallen for Mia Resort. It may not have a crèche or kids club, but it doesn’t need one: kids can play throughout the resort, with or without the supervision of the friendly staff (be sure to befriend food and beverage manager Cindy, who holds weekly dress-up sessions and painting classes with little Smiths on at the weekends). The only problem with bringing your children here is ever getting them back home again: little Smiths will lose their hearts to the private beach, frangipani gardens and young-at-heart restaurant.
